“Home wasn’t a set house, or a single town on a map. It was wherever the people who loved you were, whenever you were together. Not a place, but a moment, and then another, building on each other like bricks to create a solid shelter that you take with you for your entire life, wherever you may go.” ― Sarah Dessen

Madison + Maegan were so excited for their shoot, they packed nearly their entire closet in their parents car before heading out to our beautiful location at South Pointe Park! Armed with bags of clothes, balloons, and tons of energy we captured these fun images.

From climbing on some slightly dangerous rocks (which I totally did not wear the right shoes for, by the way), to running down to the shore, writing in the sand, and climbing on trees, Madison and Maegan wanted to do it all…including rolling down the hill, which I was totally against and their dad was totally for! “These girls are tough!” he said, but I didn’t want any broken arms on my watch! All in all, we had a BLAST. : )-Liz

When planning this session, we were hoping for that beautiful golden light just before sunset, which we get all the time here in Florida. Unfortunately, mother nature had other plans and gave us a dreary and cold afternoon to work with. Since we couldn’t reschedule, we made the best out of our lighting and walked away with some great photos to commemorate the upcoming arrival of Stephanie and Joes first child. I had so much fun hanging out with this sweet couple and can’t wait to meet baby Joey in just a few weeks!

I looked out the window (an hour before the shoot) and thought out loud “the weather is perfect!” Most people would think I was crazy. The dark grey clouds looked like they were ready to burst. It had started to spit rain. But the weather gave a moody backdrop for what I had envisioned. I had borrowed a vintage white wicker pram, that was over 100 years old. Her sweet authentic outfit bought over 60 years ago by her great grandmother traveling by train across Canada. She had bought it for her grandmother, and now she wears it. I love being able to incorporate this family treasure into the shoot. Miss K’s big brother is so patient and kind. Both with gorgeous golden ringlets. and big eyes.

“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As longs as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.”-Anne Frank

In the South, you will find cotton fields blooming in the Autumn months. We headed out into one such field for this beautiful photo session. The child pictured ran thought the fluffy fields, the wind blowing her blonde curls, not a care in the world – just pure imagination. The sun was just beginning to set and made for lovely golden haze, which contributed greatly to the dreamy feel of this shoot.

“Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.” -Bob Marley
